Now that you have a dazzling new website for your Real Estate company, need help adding new property listings? Step by step directions on how to post new property listings on your website!

Now that you’re website is all setup, you will be posting new property listings on your website periodically. To assist you in this process, the entire process is laid out below.

Before you get started, you need to pick up to 6 of the best pictures you have that portray your new listing in a positive manner. High quality and properly framed photos are your best bet. Resize these pictures into two sets of images, a full-size image (which we will refer to as “image.jpg”) and a thumbnail version of each full-size image (which we will refer to as “thumb_image.jpg”). Learn how to Resize your Property Images.

Basic Steps for Posting a New Listing

Login to your Real Estate Website (http://yourdomain.com/content/wp-admin)

Go to Posts > Add New

Fill in the Title field with an appropriate title.

Try to use something catchy and distinctive

Fill in the description with your general description.

This will be the description that shows on the main content of property listing page.

Set the Single Post Template dropdown menu from “Blog Post” to “Property Listing”

This will ensure your new post shows up with the additional “Real Estate” fields listed below this option. To make an ordinary blog post, keep this setting as “Blog Post”.

Fill in the General Property Info fields with the respective information (eg. Listing Price: $999,999, MLS #: 123456, etc.).

Fill in the Property Details fields with the property information.

For additional remarks about the listing, insert your comments or additional information into “Additional Features”, this will show up at the bottom of the property listing page.

Listing Images: Enter your image urls that you have in an open Notepad window after following the Resize your Property Images tutorial. There are 12 alternating fields, 6 for the full-size image URL’s (locations) and 6 for the thumbnail versions of each image.

Featured Listings: If you would like to have the new listing featured on the Front Page of your website, you need to select the Featured category. Select any other categories you would your new listing to appear in.

Choose your best image and create a custom field named “articleimg”. For it’s value, enter the Image URL of the best looking image on your listing.

Add a new custom field named “thumbnail”. For it’s value, enter the thumbnail URL to match the image you chose for your “articleimg”.

Add a new custom field named “featuredtext” with the caption text you would like displayed on the front-page fading display.

Now that development of your new and improved website is underway, you need to point the domain name at our servers. This will allow your domain name to point to the new website. You are encouraged to point the domain name as soon as we begin development if it is a new website with an existing domain name, or to wait for us to do it (or give you the green light) if it is a website redesign. If we took care of registering the domain name for you, we will handle all of this, don’t fret. If we are redesigning an existing website, we will communicate with you when the change should take place. This allows for minimal downtime, and often seamless transitions.

To point your domain name at our servers:

Login to the domain registrar you registered your domain with.

Find the domain and edit its Nameservers.

Change the name servers to Custom with the following servers:

NS1.CHASEHOSTING.COM

NS2.CHASEHOSTING.COM

NS3.CHASEHOSTING.COM

NS4.CHASEHOSTING.COM

Click save or submit and you should see a confirmation message.

That’s it! Now your domain should begin to resolve to our web servers within the next few hours! (it could take up to 72 hours for domain name changes to fully propagate)

Mention “cross-browser compatible” to any web designer/programmer/developer/coder/n00b and you’ll get a long-winded rant about how annoying the rendering quirks of several different browsers can be to the overall design process of a website. But why? Aren’t all web browsers created equal?

Different Browser Engines

You may think, “they’re all web browsers, don’t all they do the same thing?” Well essentially, yes, but each popular browser uses its own rendering engine (Gecko, Webkit, KHTML, Webcore, etc.) that is unique to that browser. Each engine has its quirks and handles a few CSS design element attributes differently than the others. For instance, the margin attribute of an element in IE is handled very differently than in Firefox and results commonly in discrepancies in the layout.

Browser Compatibility

Some people might give you the impression that total, or near-total, cross browser compatibility is impossible or unattainable. However, this is far from the truth and is usually something an unknowledgeable web designer will tell you hoping you’ll blindly believe. Getting more advanced effects and complex javascript functions can be near-impossible to get 100% compatible on all browsers, but simple CSS and HTML based websites should almost always be cross-browser compatible unless a blaring exception to regular design keeps it from being so.

Is YOUR website cross-browser compatible?

Check your site in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and examine closely how the design and layout of the site resembles the sketch or final design. You may need to apply some browser fixes and css hacks to make sure the design looks 100% to all of your visitors. But its worth the time and effort! Your visitors will love you for it!
